Exact location is unknown, however early records indicate the appearance of this variety growing in the Hrazdan River valleys.
Dainty vines produce perfectly round, smooth fruit balls up to 4” (10cm) in diameter. Skin is bright yellow with wild splotches of red-orange striping. Flesh is creamy white, becoming sweeter as the weather gets hotter. A real treat to grow, the melon patch is filled with a delicious, sweet aroma every time you walk by. We’ve witnessed bees lining-up on the flowers waiting to get their turn for pollen. Colouring and flavour excel in hot dry conditions. Keep a keen eye – fruit automatically detaches from the stem when mature. Very attractive, and always a crowd-pleaser. Perfect for single serving size. One of our favourites! Matures in 80-90 days. Tips for Growing Marvelous Melons! Melons love heat and full sun. It is best to start indoors at least 4 weeks prior to plant date. Alternatively, melons can also be direct seeded if the season is long enough. Sow seed 1/2” (1cm) deep in warm, well fertilized soil. Plant 2-3 seedlings in mounds 24” (60cm) apart. Mulch heavily with straw so that the fruit will be cushioned against the soil. The most suitable companion plants for Melons are; corn, sunflowers, and morning glory. Do not plant near potatoes. Melons usually germinate within 5-7 days (80-90ºF/27-32ºC).
