Early Scarlet Globe
Heritage: Port Williams, Nova Scotia
First recorded growing on farms in the villages of King’s County in the early 1860’s. It later appeared in an American Seed Catalogue in the late 1880’s.
One of the most popular globe radishes with excellent uniformity and early maturity. Globe-shaped roots are vibrant red with bright white flesh, maturing up to 1” (2.5cm) in diameter. Flavourful and juicy with a slightly coarser texture than the more delicate varieties. Appealing to most palates with a gentle spicey snap. Green tops remain compact and are firm to pull. Good choice for heavy clay soils. Shows some heat tolerance. Matures in 20-25 days. (110 seeds/g)
Tips for Growing Radiant Radishes! Radishes are one of the most versatile vegetables to grow. Forgiving of almost all soil types, they do need sun and can be planted as soon as the ground can be worked. Sow seeds 1/2” (1cm) deep and thin to 2” (5cm) apart. Provide ample water so that they grow quickly and avoid becoming corky. Radishes are excellent companion plants with squash, beans, cucumbers, melons, carrots, parsnips, peas, and spinach. They also have a particularly good relationship with lettuce. Do not plant radishes near hyssop. Radishes usually germinates within 4-7 days (45-85ºF/7-30ºC)
