Dwarf Gray Sugar (Snow Pea = edible Pod)

Heritage: Michigan, USA

Recorded in North America as early as the 1770’s, it wasn’t until 1892 that D.M.Ferry & Co included them in their annual Seed Catalogue.

This special variety is bushy and compact, growing no more than 30” (75cm) high. If need be, it can be grown without support, although we would highly recommend it. Bright violet flowers produce luscious vibrant-green stringless pods up to 3” (7.5cm) long growing in clusters at the top of the plants. Peas are equally tasty if pods are left to fill-out past the edible pod stage. This variety also produces excellent sprouts, and tender young leaves and shoots. Harvest pods often for best production. Tolerant to most climates. Shows disease resistance. Matures in 60-70 days. (7 seeds/g)

Tips for Growing Precious Peas! Peas are quite versatile tolerating a wide range of temperatures including light frosts. They are best suited to top production in the cooler weather of early Spring, or Autumn. Peas can be planted in both seasons to get a double crop in one season. As soon as the ground can be worked, plant seed 1” (2.5cm) deep and 2” (5cm) apart. Peas have no problem with crowding, but must have trellis or fence support. Full sun and moisture are essential. The most suitable companion plants for Peas are; corn, carrots, radishes, mustard and cucumbers. Do not plant near onions or garlic. Peas usually germinate within 5-7 days (50-75ºF/10-24ºC)
