Tips for Growing Sensational Sweet Peas! Sweet Peas are an annual that thrives in full-day sun with well-fertilized, moist soil. They can be started in-doors, but we prefer to direct seed after the danger of frost has passed, and the soil has warmed to at least (55ºF/12ºC). Plant seeds ½“(1.5cm) deep, 2-3” (5-7.5cm) apart in an area where there is sturdy support available for climbing. Cover with soil, and gently tamp/press down so that the seeds are in contact with the earth. Lightly water, ensuring the soil remains moist, but not over-watered. When plants reach 6”(15cm) tall, pinch back the tips to encourage bushy growth. Sweet Peas usually germinate within 10-28 days (55-65ºF/12-18ºC).
