Giganteus (Annual, Self-Seeding)
Heritage: Ontario, Quebec (Central Canada)
Native to Central Canada, and parts of the Eastern U.S.A
Trunk-like stalks grow 10-12ft (300-365cm) in height with a super strong root system to keep them anchored in strong winds. They usually produce only one single super-large flower that can reach 10” (25cm) in diameter, although we have had a few that branched-out producing additional, smaller sized flowers. The large golden-brown centre is surrounded by a profusion of magnificent dark yellow petals. Such a happy flower! Makes a beautiful ornamental, and a great bird feeder. The seeds are pretty tasty for humans to! (12 seeds/g)

Tips for Growing Sensuous Sunflowers! Sunflowers are an annual that thrives in full-day sun and loose, well-drained soils for deep rooting. They can be started in-doors, but we prefer to direct seed after the danger of frost has passed, and the soil has warmed to at least (65ºF/18ºC). Plant seeds 1” (2.5cm) deep in an area where there is support for excessive winds. Cover with soil, and gently tamp/press down so that the seeds are in contact with the earth. Lightly water, ensuring the soil remains moist, but not over-watered. Thin to 6” (15cm) apart. Sunflowers usually germinate within 7-10 days (65-85ºF/18-29ºC).
