Evergreen White

Heritage: China

Believed to have first developed in China, bunching onions spread throughout Asia long before reaching the shores of North America.

Bright white stems are long and slender, growing 4-6” (10-15cm) before the stalks start to green. Sturdy upright stalks are a soft pale green, with plenty of crisp texture. Flavour is mild, with just enough zest to make it a memorable bite. This is a true scallion variety, showing little or no bulbing. Hardy enough to over-winter in milder climates. Shows disease resistance. Matures in 60-70 days. (450 seeds/g)

Tips for Growing Opulent Onions!  Onions generally prefer cooler temperatures, so start outdoors early as soon as the soil can be worked. Disperse seed on the surface of the ground, cover lightly with soil, and gently tamp down. Onions prefer full sun with good ventilation and drainage. Thin depending on the size, and variety of the Onion being cultivated. Ensure soil is hilled-up around the base of the onion to ensure white bulbs. Suitable companion plants for Onions are; cabbage, beets, tomatoes, carrots, and lettuce. Note: Bunching Onions can flourish in much tighter spacing than Bulb Onions, and can be planted and harvested several times throughout one growing season. Hilling-up around the base will produce longer, whiter stalks. Onions usually germinate within 10-14 days (65-80ºF/18-26ºC)
