Wild Bergamot (Perennial)

Heritage: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick

Native to eastern North America, these lovely 3’ (90cm) plants display an outstanding profusion of multi-layered lavender blossoms with a sweet aroma attracting bees, butterflies and humming birds when in bloom. The leaves provide an unforgettable flavour to tea, as well as various meat and bean dishes. Leaves are also useful crushed to a paste, and placed on bee stings to aid healing (Bee Balm). So useful, you can never grow enough of these glorious plants! (2,500 seeds/g)

Tips for Growing Bountiful Bergamot!  Bergamot thrives best in rich, fertile soil with full sun in the morning and some shade during hot afternoons. When the weather warms, sprinkle seeds sparingly on top of the earth or in row indentations. Cover with soil no more than ¼” (6mm) deep and gently tamp/press down so that the seeds are in contact with the earth. Lightly water, ensuring the soil remains moist, but not over-watered. Thin to 18” (45 cm) apart. The best planting companions for Bergamot are: coneflowers, goldenrod, milkweed, yarrow, phlox. Bergamot usually germinates within 10-30 days (60-75ºF/15-23ºC)
