Pink Cyprus Rose Poppy  (P. somniferum)  (Annual, Self-Seeding)

Heritage: Cyprus (Eastern Mediterranean)

We were gifted the seeds to this most beautiful variety over 20 years ago during our early years of growing heirlooms. One of the neighbouring farms was owned by a lovely gentleman from Cyprus who raised goats, and loved flowers. We have been forever grateful for this outstanding pink bundle of happiness, and have been growing from those same seeds ever since.

Tall stems with silvery green leaves grow up to 4ft (120cm) producing a beautiful display of heavily ruffled double flowers 4-5”(10-12cm) in diameter. The flowers are bright, bubblegum-pink, with a dark mauve underside. Be prepared for a continuous supply of blooms from late June through September. It is believed that pink poppies symbolize compassion and love. We sure LOVE these! One of our Favourites! (3,600 seeds/g)

Attracts Beneficials: Bees, Butterflies, Ladybugs, Hoverflies, Hummingbirds

Excellent Companion Plant for: Turnips, Carrots, Beets, Radish, Hollyhock

Do Not Plant Near: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage

Tips for Growing Practically-Perfect Poppies!  Poppies are self-seeding, frost-tolerant annuals that thrive in full sun and fertile soil. They can be started in-doors, but we prefer to direct seed in very early spring, or late fall. Scatter seeds on top of the earth or in row indentations. Cover with a very light sprinkling of soil, no more than 1/8” (3mm) deep, and gently tamp/press down so that the seeds are in contact with the earth. Lightly water, ensuring the soil remains moist, but not over-watered. Thin to 6” (15cm) apart for larger plants, or leave them closer together to grow in clumps of Poppy perfection! We find clumps the best option for support. Poppies usually germinate within 10-30 days (55-65ºF/12-18ºC).
