Tips for Growing Bountiful Basil! Basil is an annual herb that loves heat and water. Wait until the weather warms and plant in full sunlight. Sprinkle seeds sparingly on top of the earth or in row indentations. Cover with a light sprinkling of soil and gently tamp/press down so that the seeds are in contact with the earth. Lightly water, ensuring the soil remains moist, but not over-watered. Thin to 6-10” (15-25cm) apart for larger plants, or leave them closer together to grow as clumps. For fuller, rounder plants pinch-off tops of branches. Pinch-off any flowers to encourage leaf growth, and retain flavour. The best planting companions for Basil are: asparagus, carrots, radishes, tomatoes, peppers. Do not plant Basil near cucumbers, or fennel. Basil usually germinates within 5-14 days (75-85ºF/23-30ºC)
